Great presentation, however...
I am happy to own this Collection. If you're a Kirby fan you should be familiar with most of the content game-wise, you're getting plenty of quality platforming with lots of charm. And, as if that wasn't enough, the extras warrant the price: The soundtrack that spans 45 tracks, the cool artbook and the episodes from the anime (episodes 1, 60 and 72 are included) . The 'Motto Challenge Stages', with gameplay lifted from Kirby Wii, serve as a fun distraction as well. However, being basically Virtual Console ports, I must warn you there are almost no display-control options of any kind. To make matters worse, the default button mapping of both the Classic Controller PRO and the Gamecube controller is downright absurd in many cases (e.g [B]/[Y] to inhale or [A]/[X] to jump on the Classic Controller PRO. Such config applies to both GameBoy iterations, the Famicom one and Motto Challenge Stages. And the config of the Gamecube Controller is even worse...) Simply inexcusable... The Wiimote is the only control option with somewhat-decent button config. I reiterate, you cannot customize the controls at all so you'd better be prepared to put up with a sideways-help Wiimote if you were counting on using a different controller. A PS2 Controller is a sound alternative to counter this obnoxious flaw but you'll be forced to acquire a converter (fortunately, they are not expensive. I suggest getting a 'Cube Joybox Pro' by Mayflash) .
Kirby's Dream Collection[a] is a 2012 video game published by Nintendo for the Wii system. It is an anthology disc celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Kirby series, which took place on April 27, 2012. In addition to the disc, the package includes a booklet that highlights Kirby's history, as well as a soundtrack CD containing music from multiple series entries. The game was released in Japan on July 19, 2012 and in North America on September 16, 2012.[1]
Content[edit]
The disc includes six playable Kirby titles:[1]
The disc also features new challenge stages based on those found in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. Additionally, the game includes a museum section, which spotlights every title in the Kirby series as of 2012, and includes three viewable episodes from the anime Kirby: Right Back at Ya! ('Kirby Comes to Cappy Town', 'Crusade for the Blade', and 'Waddle While You Work').
All games included in the collection have been calibrated for use with the Wii Remote turned horizontally. The GameCube Controller and Classic Controller are also supported. The game supports up to four players depending on which game is chosen. Like the other four games (Kirby's Adventure, Kirby Super Star, Kirby's Dream Land 3, and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards) in the collection, the Game Boy games (Kirby's Dream Land and Kirby's Dream Land 2) are treated as 'Virtual Console' titles, complete with the 'suspending play' and manual features despite Game Boy titles never being released on the service via the Wii Shop Channel as they were being released on the Nintendo 3DS via the Nintendo eShop at the time of the game's release. All six games have also been released separately on the Virtual Console via the Wii Shop Channel, 3DS eShop, and Wii U eShop.
Sales and reception[edit]
As of August 25, 2012, Kirby's Dream Collection sold 200,000 copies in Japan. Critical reception in North America has been positive, praising the amount of content within. The game holds an aggregate score of 81.29% on GameRankings[2] and 82/100 on Metacritic.[3]
